Katie Han - October 2017, New York

This month I focused on re-familiarizing myself with my knitting machine, and played with the options of materials I have at hand. I felt like I needed to take a few steps back from what I started making right after graduating, and go back to the basics of collecting inspiration and making swatches.

I would like to re-knit this swatch in a cleaner yarn, maybe superfine merino!

Moving forward I would like to continue exploring knit textures, as well as incorporating graphics through painting studies and potentially marbling. I've been really interested in the motifs found in Chinese dragon robes, as well as the style of these paintings by Kiyoshi Awazu that reference traditional Chinese garments.

  2. loving the pink felted sample, especially draped over the arm! also would love to see the last swatch (the one with the two holes), the top hole i can totally see as a collar for a top. something about the color and the shape fits really well, and tbh i think the yarn texture works with the piece.
