Louise Bourgeois: An Unfolding Portrait, MOMA

Zoe and I went to the Louise Bourgeois show yesterday! It had a really comprehensive collection of her work. It was really interesting to see her explore the same repeated forms and language in various mediums over time as different technologies (like digital printing and embroidery) developed.

I realized two things about Louise: she has made an unimaginable amount of pieces, and has a funny sense of humor.

I was surprised that these are actually large etchings, rather than drawings.

  1. are these etchings on vintage linens? i've seen printmakers make impressions of cloth, but I love to idea of printing on cloth... repurposing an artifact of craft into a material to be used, if that makes sense. thank you for sharing... planning on going with Cammie this week to see the show!

    1. I think the larger etchings were done on paper, but I never knew until going to the show that the smaller ones (especially the spider lady) were done on handkerchiefs!
